Senior Technical Consultant
I joined Ultima in 1999 and have seen many changes within the organisation. Most of the people I met on my first day are still working for Ultima and, like myself, couldn’t think of working anywhere else. The work I am involved with is both challenging and rewarding and with Ultima’s customer base being so varied I get to meet some very interesting and engaging people.
I learned how to Skydive so I wouldn’t lose a bet!
Network & Security Business Development Manager
I joined Ultima in 2012 as an Internal Account Manager, since then Ultima has provided me with the foundation to build a career through excellent training and their policy of promoting from within. I now work as a Network & Security Business Development Manager and I know that as I keep progressing, Ultima will provide the platform and support to help me.
Whilst travelling in the Caribbean I played for the St. Eustatius National football team against other islands.
Communications & Content Executive
I joined Ultima in 2014, and have been provided with ample support and progression paths along the way. I originally started in our Technical Support Centre, but moved into Sales shortly after to work as an Internal Account Manager for our top team. Recently in 2017 I transitioned into Marketing to fulfil my long-term career goals. I have seen Ultima grow so much in the time I have been here, most recently with our office move to Gainsborough House which is an amazing change to our working environment!
I have only recently learnt to swim, motivated by a planned holiday to the Dominican Republic!
I have worked for a number of different consultancy organisations during my career and I have finally found a place where I am amongst similar minded individuals. Ultima has an impressive talent pool which are not only at the pinnacle of technical understanding but also have the key social skills to work well together and understand customers’ requirements. Idea and knowledge sharing is at the core of what we do which allows us to constantly improve and drive technical perfection.

The Roman philosopher Seneca was quoted as saying that “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”. If you take out the luck element, you have the ethos for Ultima, we are always prepared for opportunities and when they come we excel. I have been at Ultima for over 12 years and have watched this company grow and feel proud to be a part of something so significant.

I joined to try my hand in a completely new industry and to give myself a challenge. From day one, I was welcomed into a friendly team that works well together. I have gained an immense amount of knowledge not only from formal training and induction sessions but from my colleagues. Ultima understands the importance of career progression and in just 18 months I have progressed from the internal account management team into an account development manager role. I’m looking forward to developing my skills and knowledge further as well as the next steps in my Ultima career!

I joined the company after graduating from University and there are many reasons to work at Ultima. The company is growing quickly and utilising a vast array of systems to support its processes which has enabled exposure to many technologies and with that new challenges.
I had tried to work towards a PADI for scuba diving but hadn’t been able to equalise in the water – well not yet!

I have always been passionate about IT and after years of administration I was desperate for a change. Ultima gave me an opportunity to make that change and took me on even though I only had limited subject experience. However, with ongoing support and by constantly providing new and exciting challenges, Ultima has moulded me into the IT professional I am today. I first joined Ultima in 2000 as a receptionist, where I instantly felt welcomed. I love the fact that, at Ultima, there is no perceived hierarchy and everyone is known by their first name, a very personal approach. I also like the fact that promotion from within is very high on the agenda…. and to prove the fact I have progressed to working in our customer services department and then on to my current role as Credit Controller.

My first job out of University was a little different from Microsoft Licensing; I was directing and making music videos!

Ultima is constantly evolving and it has been enjoyable being part of its journey for so long. The people who have joined the company along the way have adopted the friendly, enthusiastic, professional and hardworking approach that made me choose Ultima in the first place. I joined in 1997 as a Configuration Engineer and have seen my career develop through the years as a Technical Engineer, Managed Services Support Engineer, Systems Administrator and IT Infrastructure Consultant.
I broke a bone in my shoulder last year playing football against my 5 year old son!
I’ve worked at Ultima for 13 years. Ultima’s ethos of promotion from within has seen me progress from an Internal Account Manager to an Account Director. I have stayed with the company for such a long time due to the evolution in the services that we supply and continuous investment in people and into the business. For someone working in sales, having a strong proposition and first class IT professionals to deliver customer projects, are the most important things a company can provide. Ultima has both and this makes it an interesting and enjoyable place to work.

Managed Services Manager
When I started at Ultima there were around 80 staff, now we are well over 300. It still hasn’t lost its family feel and close knit identity, we’re not a number, we are all valuable members of the Ultima Community. There are lots of staff working at Ultima that have 15 years + service, that speaks volumes. The grass is green here.
When I was 10 years old, I appeared in a film with David Essex, Silver Dream Racer – I guess it was destiny, given my name.
Ultima has grown organically over a number of years and most employees have been with us for much of that time. It’s testament to the culture which is nurtured in encouraging growth within the business. The Project Office is a great team to work in, where each member works as a collective to ensure the business can rely on our department to deliver projects to a high standard, as well as identifying further opportunities.
I have a black belt in judo.
Having worked at a large corporate and a tiny 5 person company, Ultima is a bit like ‘Goldilocks and the 3 Bears’ for me - it’s just the right fit! I think we are large enough to be flexible and support career opportunities and cross-training in new departments, but small enough to feel that you can make a real difference, and be recognised for it. I have always found the atmosphere is what keeps people here; we seem to attract friendly & intelligent people and the owner is extremely approachable, which adds to our unique culture, making it a great place to work.
While living in Vancouver during 2009, I worked for the 2010 Olympic organisers in the run up to the Vancouver Winter Olympics.
IT Infrastructure Administrator
When I joined Ultima in 2011, I started in the Config area which provided me with a real grounding in the different technologies and where I learned the importance of attention to detail. I then progressed on to the engineering team before taking up my current role looking after the internal infrastructure for the company. I love the variety of my current role and enjoy the troubleshooting element and supporting the wide variety and growing number of users at Ultima. From day one at Ultima I knew this would be the right place for me because of the wide range of career opportunities available to me. I have already progressed and developed so much in just 4 years and hopefully I can progress even further.
I’m really proud of achieving my MCSE in less than a year (Microsoft certification).
Having spent almost all of my 20s at Ultima, I feel like I have grown up with the company and it’s certainly changed a lot since I started whilst managing to retain some of the benefits of working for a privately owned, smaller organisation. I love working in the City of London and even more so now we have our new office. There’s definitely a ‘work hard, play hard’ philosophy up here which is great! We’re fortunate as sales people here to be able to offer a range of different services that we genuinely specialise in, so finding and winning business is easier than it might be elsewhere. My favourite thing about working at Ultima has to be the people though. I’ve made some friends for life here and we’re just generally a great bunch of people!
My previous job involved setting up and running the bars, restaurants and VIP areas at the Australian Grand Prix.

Every day I have the opportunity to work with a fantastic set of people within the Ultima Licensing Team and extended Ultima family, who are all highly motivated, dedicated and are a pleasure to work with. What makes Ultima different from other companies is the high standard of values, morals and integrity it upholds. As a company, we really care about our customers that is why we have such long standing relationships. In my specific team, we are always striving to make a difference, offer creative licensing solutions and save customers money. Ultima is really a great place to work and whilst it’s always growing, it never forgets to take care of both its employees and customers.
When I started at Ultima nearly 20 years ago, the warehouse space was a 12ft x 12ft metal cage with around 15 staff - what a transformation!!
We now have a 15,000sq ft warehouse and I have lost count of how many employees we now have. As the company has grown, my role has become more challenging with greater responsibilities. I have seen many positive changes over the years and really enjoy working as part of a close knit and supportive team.
I was tracking for bears in Yellowstone Park in America and stumbled across a grizzly in the river.
Head of Bid Management
Since joining as a Senior Project Manager in 2008, Ultima has continued to provide a rich foundation from which to further develop my analytical, creative, commercial and managerial skills. Now as Head of the Presales function, I’m responsible for delivering complex and interdependent bids on a commercial, strategic and technical level, working with some of the finest consultants, vendor specialists and sales account managers in the industry. The exemplary reputation for which we as a company aspire, is as important now as the day I joined and every action we take is with the customer’s best interests at heart.
Ever the creature of habit, I’ve been playing the same computer game since 2001.
I realised I was joining a special company when I met Max – he was the one who convinced me to come and work at Ultima. His passion and dedication to the Company is contagious and the fact he was so passionate about me joining the team made me realise that I would not just be ‘a number’ here and that Ultima really do value every member of the growing team. Ultima has a very unique team culture that I have not seen anywhere else, where everyone supports each other and works together towards a common goal. Even visitors to Ultima often comment to me on the great atmosphere and teamwork ethic that we have, and that makes us pretty special in my opinion!
I was the Reading under-16 girls champion at discus for two years running when I was at school – back in the days when I was ever so slightly more sporty than I am now!
Ultima is always looking to develop and move to the next step, however what makes Ultima special is the fact this is completely organic and allows individuals with the drive and ambition to push forward in their career to do this alongside the business, even if it involves moving to a new department / team with altered responsibilities and goals. This means the people make up the key ingredient to grow the business from within. I myself have moved from the technical side into the account management team and I have developed as an individual whilst utilising my experience in each role to assist in the next step.
One unique factor at Ultima is the availability of key individuals, including members of the board, to ensure we can provide a fluid and adaptive service which addresses each of our customers unique and challenging requirements across the entirety of the Ultima stack from an agnostic and customer-centric perspective whether commercial, technical or a combination of the two. This also extends into strong relationships with key vendors alongside internal resource availability.
While I was at school, I spent a couple of weeks working with a Labour MP.
Having joined Ultima immediately following my graduation from University, the company has allowed me to experience several business areas and grow into the position that is right for me. Transparency from board level to all employees presents the opportunity to learn from senior and experienced colleagues, which is helped by the approachable people that Ultima seems to attract. I have grown from an inexperienced post-graduate to an employee that feels they can positively impact the success of the business on a daily basis, with no little thanks to the well-structured and nurturing environment that Ultima provides.

Since I joined Ultima in 2014 I have been impressed with the friendly and welcoming environment we have. One of the things that surprises me, even to this day, is the recognition Directors provide when you go above and beyond.
As part of my role I am frequently on customer sites, often at short notice. The flexibility that Ultima provides allows me to work seamlessly inside and outside of the office, allowing me to complete my working day without having an impact on my work life balance.
During my time here I have been able to progress, taking on more responsibilities and gaining industry recognised certifications along the way - allowing me to further my career.
