Employees are at the heart of everything we do at Ultima, which is why we are giving all employees a wellness day on 1st April to take a break, spend time on themselves and switch off from work life over the long weekend. They will then be ready to start the new financial year feeling fresh and ready to take on the world. We will be sharing what our teams have got up to during their time off- whether it is practicing their baking skills or enjoying the sunshine we are all hoping for.
The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in workforces across the globe transitioning to remote working in order to reduce the risk to employees and help prevent the spread of the virus. Although many companies offered the ability to work from home prior to the pandemic, most workforces were predominately office based and therefore have had to make significant adjustments. This shift to remote working, alongside the additional challenges experienced during lockdown means that employee wellbeing and support is more important than ever.
Sadly, the restrictions that employees have faced due to the pandemic have led to an increase in mental health concerns. One key issue is the lack of separation between work and home life. Staff that have been working from their kitchens or home offices are working longer hours and juggling more responsibilities which is also causing higher stress levels. According to research by PayFit, 85% of employees have experienced work-related worries since the Covid-19 pandemic took hold in March 2020, so it’s increasingly important for employers to address these concerns.
Although a lot of employers are utilising collaborative tools such as Microsoft Teams, the lack of face-to-face contact can cause loneliness among workers, especially for those who may be living alone, so it’s important for employers to encourage engagement and host regular check-ins.
Over the past year, Ultima has been working hard to ensure employees stay connected, by hosting regular virtual events, whole company update sessions, online suggestions boxes, surprise gifts and open chat forums with members of the Board. Alongside this, we’ve also invested in external resources to ensure employees have a range of tools and services to support them, including life coaching, Mindfulness coaching, virtual HIIT sessions and complimentary access to confidential mental health support.
We are also using this time to implement exciting new system innovation to further improve our customer experience. Over the bank holiday weekend Ultima are moving over to Dynamics 365 which will allow us to improve agility and adapt to customer needs faster.
Have a lovely bank holiday weekend from the Ultima Team!
